Woman rescued

KOCHI, OCT. 5 . A police boat saved a woman who jumped into the backwaters from the Venduruthy Bridge this morning. The police said Kunjumol (45), hailing from Palluruthy, has been admitted to the General Hospital. Her condition was stable.

BSNL staff begin fast

BSNL staff belonging to the BSNL Employees Union began a 36-hour hunger strike in front of the BSNL Bhavan here today as part of a State-wide agitation demanding, among other things, employment for the kin of the staff who died in harness. The CITU district secretary, K. A. Chackochan, inaugurated the fast.

Flight

cancelled

Indian Airlines flight, IC-501, bound for Agathy from the Cochin International Airport at Nedumbassery, near here, was cancelled for the second consecutive day today, due to technical error. There was no service on Monday also. To compensate the cancellation of service for two days, Indian Airlines will operate two services to Agathy tomorrow as against the daily schedule of one.

Passenger detained

Emigration officials at the Cochin International Airport at Nedumbassery, near here, detained a passenger for possessing forged passport. T. P. Sabeer Babu (31), a resident of Kasaragod was detained when he was about to aboard an Indian Airlines flight bound for Sharjah on Monday. He was using a passport in the name of one Abdul Salam of Kozhikode after replacing the photo. Later, he was handed over to the Chengamanad police.
