There's none to soothe `aching hearts'

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, OCT. 5. With Government doctors, junior doctors and paramedical staff boycotting work on Tuesday protesting against Monday's incidents, patients coming from far-off places were the worst hit.

Tuesday being scheduled for cases related to cardiac disorders in children, young patients who came from places like Vizianagaram, Nizamabad, Kurnool and Krishna districts were also among the affected.

Nine-month-old A. Sai Prasad, suffering from a congenital heart disorder, was brought for evaluation from Adilabad by his father, Sayanna. However, they, like others, were camping on the lawns of the hospital after being told that medical services would be restored only after two days.

OP services stopped

"I do not have the money to go and come again. So we decided to stay here," Sayanna said.

Our Special Correspondent writes: An emergency executive meeting of the office bearers of the Andhra Pradesh Government Doctors' Association, IMA and AP Nursing Homes Association held today, resolved to stop all out-patient (OP) services and elective surgeries in all Government, teaching, commissionerate and ESI hospitals up to October 7 and also to form a joint action committee to achieve their demands.

According to an APGDA press release, it was also unanimously resolved to stop emergency services in Gandhi Hospital. The Joint Action Committee would consist of representatives from APGDA, IMA, APNA and APJUDA.

Demands

Listing out their demands, the APGDA secretary-general, Dr.Chandrasekhar Reddy, the IMA State Secretary, Dr.G.Suresh, and the State President, APNA, G.Bala Reddy, have said the "false cases against all medical students, doctors and staff of Gandhi Hospital should be withdrawn unconditionally."

They wanted the management of DVR college of engineering and its students to be arrested and action should be initiated against the former for payment of compensation to Gandhi hospital. They also demanded that cases be booked against the crew of a TV channel.

They warned that the protest would be intensified by stopping emergencies in Government hospitals and closing all private nursing homes, hospitals, clinics and laboratories if the Government did not respond to their demands by October 7.

Meanwhile, the Resident Doctors' Association of Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences condemned the incident and extended unconditional support to the AP Junior Doctors Association. As a mark of protest, they would be wearing black badges, according to a press release.
