Fishermen's return from Pakistan: State to bear expenses
By Our Special Correspondent
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM,
OCT. 6.
The State Government will pay the expenses for the return of six Kerala fishermen stranded in Pakistan.
The Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, told press persons after the Cabinet meeting today that the Government was in touch with the Indian High Commission in Pakistan to arrange for their return. He had earlier taken up the issue with the Central Government along with the Fisheries Minister, Dominic Presentation.
The Chief Minister said the Pakistan authorities had released the fishermen from jail.
They had strayed into the territorial waters of Pakistan after their boat developed a snag at sea. Though the Pakistan Coast Guard had taken them into custody, they were released following diplomatic initiatives.
