By Our Staff Reporter
NALGONDA,
OCT. 6.
The Nalgonda police on Wednesday arrested six persons, including a sarpanch and a retired Mandal Revenue Officer, on the charge of circulating fake pattedar passbooks in Kankanalapally village in Tipparthy mandal.
Speaking to reporters here at the district police headquarters, the Superintendent of Police, N.Balasubramanyam, said that the sarpanch, K.Janaiah, village assistant, Mohammad Khasim, and the retired MRO, Challapally Venkateswar Rao Chowdary, were behind the scam. Though the MRO retired in 1996, he attested some of the passbooks by violating rules, the SP said.
The other arrested persons are Mohammad Jani, Kasim's uncle, M.Venkataiah, an employee of the RDO office, S.Rajender, a telephone booth owner. "The gang prepared and sold the fake passbooks to some ryots, who in turn applied for crop loans in the Andhra Bank's Nalgonda branch,'' the SP said. He appreciated the bank's senior manager, Rajendra Kumar, for promptly filing a complaint. About nine ryots received about Rs.2 lakhs as crop loan on the basis of the fake pattedar passbooks.
