NEW DELHI, OCT. 6. The Delhi Government today declared that it intended to approach the Supreme Court soon seeking time till 2007 to carry out the directions for relocation of industrial units in various categories. The Government would also present its viewpoint to the Court on the shape of the Master Plan of Delhi 2021 keeping in mind the changing times and the need of the hour. Notwithstanding the resolve of the Government, the next phase of closure of industries in the `E' category will begin from October 8. It is estimated that nearly 25,000 units operating from non-conforming areas will face closure under this new drive. Special squads led by the SDMs have been formed to cut water and power connections to these units. The drive to close down `F' category of polluting units ends tomorrow. Under this, an estimated 3,500 units have been closed in various parts of the Capital. Addressing a Press conference here, Ms. Dikshit informed that around 800 plots had been "discovered recently'' in various industrial estates of the Capital which could be used for relocating various industrial units. As the size of these plots varies from place to place, it has been decided to cut them into small plots and rehabilitate around 2,5000 units which face relocation or closure as per directions of the court. Stating that her Government was for implementation of the court orders, the Chief Minister said these issues were deliberated upon at the special meeting of the Delhi Cabinet today and it was decided to approach the court for relief. The Chief Minister informed that efforts are being made to ensure that small-scale industries like the atta chaki, dry cleaners and scooter repair shops do not face closure. A committee had also been formed by the Delhi Development Authority to identity and expand the list of household industries. Apart from this, 2,000 acres of land has been acquired by the Industries Department of the Delhi Government, which would be developed over the next one year and enable relocation of thousands of industrial units. Ms. Dikshit, along with the Industry Minister, Mangat Ram Singhal, said that Delhi Finance Corporation (DFC) will provide soft loans to all those who would seek shifting of their units. Stating that there was no need to panic and the Government was doing all that was possible within its powers, the Chief Minister said the relocation of the units at the Bawana Industrial Estate was one of the biggest relocation exercises and had been carried out successfully. "We will make a humble submission to the Supreme Court seeking extension of time till 2007 completely implementing its orders. We are going to place all the facts before the court and wait for the outcome,'' the Chief Minister asserted.
