THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, OCT. 6. Three five-star resorts would be constructed at Kappil, Uduma and Chembikkara under the Bekal Tourism Development Project.
This was decided at a high-level meeting convened by the Tourism Minister, K. C. Venugopal, here Tuesday.
As many as 11 water reservoirs will be constructed on the project site, at a cost of Rs. 1.5 crores, to provide drinking water.
It was decided to landscape the beaches on 25 acres of land, including the Bekal Fort, and to introduce water sports and other recreational facilities.
The Bekal Resorts Development Corporation will take up the development of the roads to the project site with the cooperation of local panchayats. It was decided that the Archaeology Department will carry out the renovation of rest house inside the fort by the if it is handed over to the corporation.
At present, the rest house is under the Public Works Department.
