Kalamandalam Gangadharan bags fellowship

THRISSUR, OCT. 6. The Kalamandalam awards and fellowship for 2003 have been announced.

Kalamandalam Gangadharan has been selected for the fellowship which carries a cash prize of Rs. 10,000, citation and a statuette. The awards, each carrying a cash prize of Rs. 5,000, a citation and a statuette, will go to Kottakkal Sambhu Embranthiri (Kathakali vesham), Venmani Haridas (Kathakali music), N. V. Krishnan (dance), Kalamandalam Gopinatha Prabhu (Ottanthullal) and Kalamandalam Sivan Namboodiri (Koodiyattom).

Kalamandalam Rajeev has been selected for the Bhagavathar Kunjunni Thampuran Puraskaram for an actor below the age of 40. This carries a cash prize of Rs. 2,000.

Kalabharathi Rajan and Appunni Tharakan have been selected for the V. S. Sharma Endowment and the Mukundaraja Endowment awards respectively which carry a cash prize of Rs. 2,000 each.

The veterans, Mathur Govindan Kutty (Kathakali vesham), Naripatta Narayanan Namboodiri (Kathakali vesham), Kalanilayam Gopi (Kathakali vesham), Kuroor Vasudevan Namboodiri (chenda) and Thiyyadi Raman (Thiyattu) will be honoured for their life-long work. S. Ganesa Iyer, author of `Aattaprakarams', has been selected for life-time achievement award, according to a press release.
