Partly cloudy day ahead

NEW DELHI OCT. 6. A pleasant day awaits Delhiites on Thursday with the weatherman forecasting a partly cloudy sky. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be around 32 and 20 degrees Celsius respectively.

The maximum temperature recorded at Safdarjung on Wednesday was 32.4 degrees Celsius and the minimum was 20.6 degrees Celsius. At Palam, the maximum temperature and minimum temperatures were 33.7 and 21.5 degrees Celsius respectively.

The maximum humidity at Safdarjung and Palam was 91 per cent and 89 per cent respectively while the minimum relative humidity was 35 per cent and 37 per cent respectively.

Engineer jumps to death

NEW DELHI OCT. 6. A 55-year-old executive engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD) allegedly jumped off to death from his 11th floor office at the Police Headquarters' building in Central Delhi in the early hours of Wednesday.

The incident occurred around 4 a.m. when Moti Lal, the PWD executive engineer, allegedly jumped off to death. A constable deployed nearby heard the thud and rushed to find Mr. Lal lying in a pool of blood.

Enquiries revealed that Mr. Lal was suffering from depression for the past several weeks. The local police have initiated inquest proceedings into the matter.

Absconder nabbed

New Delhi Oct. 6. The CBI has arrested an absconder at Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh for allegedly being involved in a case registered in 1992 at Chandigarh concerning out of turn allotment of telephone connections on the basis of forged documents.

The CBI sleuths nabbed Janardhan Pal from his house in Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh. According to the prosecution, Pal and other accused had submitted forged documents with the BSNL office at Chandigarh for the allotment of telephones on priority basis for some people.
