HYDERABAD, OCT. 7. Even as the Krishna water is going waste into the sea from Prakasam Barrage, arrangements are in full swing for commencing work on Pulichintala project on October 15. The Government has awarded execution of the project to the Hyderabad-based Srinivasa Constructions, which quoted the bid at Rs. 286 crores as against the estimated cost of Rs. 350 crores, according to officials. The plan is to immediately take up construction of an earthen dam after `bhoomi puja' by the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, on October 15. A special relief and resettlement package has been finalised for the families of the 12 villages in Guntur and Nalgonda districts which are likely to be affected. The package envisages construction of townships with pucca houses, roads, drinking water and religious places. Clearance has been given for immediate construction of approach roads to the dam site near Vazinepalli connecting Nemalipuri, Madipadu, Muktyala and Jadepalli thanda. As per a recent decision, the storage of the dam has been revised to 49 tmcft from the earlier 45 tmcft. Land is being acquired at Velagalapaya in Prakasam district for raising compensatory afforestation.
