HYDERABAD, OCT. 7. A new `Nakabandi' scheme involving the Cyberabad, Ranga Reddy, Nizamabad, Mahbubnagar and Nalgonda district police is on the anvil to nab fleeing offenders during `red alert' situations. Hereafter, within seconds of receiving information about any major crime, a security dragnet would be thrown over all the 10 National and State highways emanating from Hyderabad. Special police parties will rush to fixed points on all these routes and conduct frisking and vehicle checking operations to round up the offenders on the run.
Effective checking
"We hope this will help catch culprits who escape in different routes after committing offences in and around Hyderabad," the Additional DGP, V. Dinesh Reddy, said on Thursday. He was interacting with mediapersons after holding a co-ordination meeting with officers of the rank of Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) and above belonging to Cyberabad and the adjoining four districts. As per the new plan, whenever `red alert' is declared, the police of Hyderabad and Cyberabad would conduct first and second checks on all these highways respectively. The third inspection would be done by any of the adjoining district police of the highway concerned. To utilise the present police patrolling system on highways effectively, steps would be taken to ensure that at least one mobile team was available for every 50 km. In addition to this mobile party comprising a four-wheeler with stretcher, first aid kit and communication set, a couple of motorcycle-borne policemen would be posted at strategic points on the highways.
Details being finalised
Focus would be on prevention of drunken driving and helping the needy. Other details of the scheme are being worked out. To increase visibility of police and building confidence among public in urban areas, patrolling would be stepped up from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. All the available staff of the local police stations would come out on to the roads to regulate traffic and patrol areas with high incidence of crime. The Hyderabad range IGP, C. Ratna Reddy, and DIG, Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, Cyberabad Police Commissioner, M. Mahender Reddy, Nizamabad range DIG, Koteswara Rao, and SPs, G. Suryaprakasha Rao (Ranga Reddy), Medak (D.S. Chauhan), Mahbubnagar (Vikram Singh Mann) and Balasubramanyam (Nalgonda) were present.
