India, Pakistan discuss dates for meetings

NEW DELHI, OCT. 7. India and Pakistan today exchanged suggestions on specific dates for a whole range of meetings — including on the contentious and, so far, unresolved issue of how to put into motion the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus link.

These meetings, which will take place between November 15 and December 15, flow from the joint statement issued after the September 5-6 discussions between the Foreign Ministers of the two countries in New Delhi. Subsequently, it was agreed that the meeting between the Border Security Force and the Pakistan Rangers would be held on October 11-14 in Chandigarh, the External Affairs Ministry spokesman said in a statement. Apart from the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus service, dates for the following meetings were exchanged by the two sides:

* Meeting between railway authorities on the Munnabao-Khokhrapar rail link.

* Meeting between the Indian Coast Guards and the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency to, among other things, discuss a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for establishing communication links between them.

* Meeting between Narcotics Control Authorities, including for the finalisation of a MoU.

* Expert-level meeting on nuclear confidence-building measures (CBMs) to discuss, among other issues, a draft agreement on advance notification of missile tests.

* Expert-level meeting on conventional CBMs.

* Meeting of the Committee of Experts on trade-related issues.

* Joint survey of the boundary pillars in the horizontal segment of the International Boundary in the Sir Creek area.

The specific dates would be announced shortly.
