CHENNAI, OCT. 8. Malaysia will be the Partner Country in the nine-day Chennai International Trade Fair 2004 (CITF) being organised from October 9 to 17 by the Tamilnadu Trade Promotion Organisation (TNTPO) at the Chennai Trade Centre. The second in the annual series launched by the TNTPO, a joint venture of the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) of the Union Commerce Ministry, and the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO), CITF 2004 will feature participation by 49 foreign companies and 260 domestic companies. A total of 32 companies from Malaysia will participate in the event. The fair, intended to be promoted by the TNTPO as a southern regional version of the annual India International Trade Fair (IITF) held by the ITPO at the Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, is conceived as a multi-product, multi-sectoral consumer exhibition, with increasing emphasis on attracting business visitors. Addressing a press conference here today, R. Sudalaikannan, Managing Director of the TNTPO, said the display profile at CITF 2004 would include telecommunications, engineering, textiles and readymade garments, toys, leathers, foods and agro-products, giftware, travel and tourism, financial services, jewellery, sports equipment and the like.
