CHENNAI, OCT. 8. The South Zone senior women's cricket championship will be held in Chennai from October 11 to 13. The tournament will consist of a round-robin format, with each team playing the other in a one-day 50 overs-a-side match. Last year's champion, Tamil Nadu, will compete against Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh; and the top two teams will qualify for the senior National championship, to be held in the state in January 2005. Tamil Nadu's triumph in the zonal championship came after a gap of nine years. At a press conference here on Friday, the president of the Tamil Nadu Women's Cricket Association announced that the matches would be played at the Sri Ramachandra Medical College grounds in Porur. The winners of the tournament will qualify for the annual Indira Priyadarshini Trophy Championship. Performance in the South Zone championship is the criterion for selection to the South Zone team competing for the inter-zonal Rani Jhansi Trophy.
