HYDERABAD, OCT. 8. Coinciding with the 150th anniversary of the India Post, a new premium service `Logisitic Post' is expected to be introduced in Andhra Pradesh circle in February 2005, to enable transportation of goods to various destinations by road. Speaking to reporters on Friday as part of the sesquicentennial celebrations of India Posts, the Chief Postmaster-General, AP Circle, T.S. Govindrajan, said that `Logistic Post' would be a time sensitive, premium service available only between specified cities and towns through surface transportation. It would offer booking, transmission and delivery of parcels with insurance coverage as also other value added services. The AP circle would begin groundwork to identify the destinations in November and make it ready for launch in February 2005. The department intends to cover, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Chennai in the initial stages and extend the services to other destinations later.
Yearlong celebrations
The department has chalked out yearlong celebrations such as issue of commemorative stamps, release of souvenir, literary competitions, seminars and symposium. A special logo has been designed for the occasion with the slogan "India Post - A reliable partner, Reach out - Throughout". A stamp designing contest for schoolchildren on November 14 at five venues, a quiz on philately and a philately exhibition called HYPEX at Hyderabad from November 19 to 21 are the other programmes on the anvil. A commemorative stamp on Tenneti Vishwanadham will be released on November 10.
World Post Day
The department is observing this Saturday as World Post Day, which also marks the beginning of National Postal Week. Besides, October 11 will be earmarked as Business Development day followed by Philately Day on October 12 while October 14 will be observed as Postal Life Insurance Day. October 15 has been declared as Mail Day. Dak Seva Awards will be presented the same day.
