PW not opposed to Pulichintala: Ministers

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, OCT. 8. The Ministers for Municipal Administration and Higher Education -- Koneru Ranga Rao and P. Venkateswara Rao -- said here on Friday that the People's War was not against Pulichintala, as was being interpreted by some people.

They said the fact that the PW had not included the project in its agenda for the talks showed that it did not wish to make an issue of it. In any case, the Government was prepared to explain to PW leaders how Pulichantala would also be beneficial to Telangana region, they said. Mr. Ranga Rao is a designated Government representative for the talks.

Speaking to reporters here with leaders from Krishna delta, including the former ZP Chairman, P. Koteswara Rao, the MP, B. Ramakrishna, the MLAs, M. Buddha Prasad, Perni Venkatramaiah and K. P. Sarathy, the Ministers expressed happiness that the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, was going ahead with grounding works from October 15. They said a massive reception would be accorded to him at Tenali at 2 p.m. on October 15 by farmers of Krishna delta.

A hasty move: BJP

Meanwhile, the BJP took taken objection to the Government's decision to go ahead with laying the foundation for the project without announcing a rehabilitation plan for the 20 villages that the project will submerge, displacing 5,000 people.

Addressing a press conference here, the State president and the vice-president of the BJP -- N. Indrasena Reddy and S. V. Seshagiri Rao -- said the Government had not announced compensation for the displaced.

However, they said they supported the project, adding that it would benefit all three regions of the State.
