NEW DELHI, OCT. 8. Two more witnesses today turned hostile in the journalist Shivani Bhatnagar murder case. So far, about ten witnesses have backtracked from their police statements in the case. On Friday, Devender Pal Singh, and his wife, Abha Singh, refused to identify Sri Bhagwan and Ved Prakash, two of the accused in the case, when the Special Public Prosecutor in the case, S.K. Saxena, asked them to identify the two. On the basis of the statements of Devender Pal Singh and Abha Singh, the city police wanted to prove that R.K. Sharma knew the two accused before the commission of the crime as, according to the prosecution, Sharma had mentioned the names of the two accused to Devender Pal Singh for taking their help in the purchase of a piece of land in Gurgaon in Haryana. The prosecution claimed that the couple had told in his police statements that they had purchased the land through the two accused.According to the prosecution, Devender Pal Singh had said in his police statement that he, Sharma and the latter's wife, Madhu Sharma, had studied together in Chandigarh and Sharma had mentioned to him about the two accused as the persons who were in the business of sale and purchase of properties. However, in his statement in the court, Devender Pal retracted from his statement. Abha Singh also said that her husband did no know the two accused and that Sharma had never mentioned the names of the two accused to them.
