HYDERABAD, OCT. 8. The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, has announced that the Government will initiate measures for undertaking surgeries of 5,000 to 6,000 children with heart ailments during this year. Dr. Reddy was speaking after launching the GIFT Health Foundation of Global Hospitals on the eve of the discharge of Batool Hasan, a Pakistani girl who underwent a liver transplant at the hospital.
Heart surgeries
He said the Government would sanction Rs.20 crores to improve infrastructure in 10 Government hospitals and another Rs.20 crores for heart operations of ailing children. Appreciating the cooperation of corporate and private hospitals, he said 400 children underwent heart surgeries in the last two months. Film actor, Chiranjeevi, congratulated Global Hospitals for its show of humanity. "Countries have boundaries, but there is no LOC for humanity," he said. The Information and Public Relations Minister, Shabbir Ali, also spoke. The Foundation was aimed at making available latest medicare to the poor and needy. Mr. Chiranjeevi launched a `One free surgery a day' programme. The Hospital Managing Director, K. Ravindranath, said: "We plan to take up 250 cardiac surgeries, 100 kidney, liver and gastro surgeries a year." The Foundation mobilised Rs. 10 lakhs for the purpose.
