HYDERABAD, OCT. 8. An exercise much-awaited by Congress leaders for nominating heads of State-owned corporations may be over in a couple of weeks. The Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, is planning to release the list of nominees in one go. There is intense competition among Congress leaders to bag the top slots in 26 corporations.
Many aspirants
More than 2,000 applications are pending with the `decision-makers' and the long-standing issue has become a headache for Dr. Reddy as well for his Advisor on Public Affairs, K. V. P. Ramachandra Rao. Cabinet expansion and filling of nominated posts are the two eagerly awaited events among Congress leaders. Those denied ticket in the recent elections have been promised nominated posts "in recognition of their long standing services to the party" by the APCC and AICC leaders. However the delay in the "reward process" has dampened the enthusiasm of the leaders. Dr. Ramachandra Rao is under heavy pressure from the aspirants. The most sought after corporations are: Tourism, APSRTC, AP Beverages, Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh, APIDC, APSFC, Lidcap, AP Handicrafts, APCO and AP Industrial Infrastructure Corporation.
Eyeing tourism
Top priority goes to the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC), which is now headed by C. Anjaneya Reddy, a former IPS officer. It remains to be seen whether he will be replaced because the Chief Minister wants all retired officials to be relieved from positions of responsibility. An exercise to fill nominated posts to temple committees and standing counsels is also on.
