BANGALORE, OCT. 8. The Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) has made elaborate arrangements for the Pulse Polio immunisation programme to be taken up from October 10 to 13, and special efforts have been made to target the high-risk groups such as children of migrant labourers and construction workers, the BMP Commissioner, K. Jothiramalingam, said here on Friday. Addressing presspersons, he said 1,700 immunisation booths had been set up in the city. Besides, there would be 130 mobile teams to conduct the programme. As many as 7,500 volunteers would administer polio drops. The target for coverage was 6.85 lakh children below the age of five years. The booths in various parts of the city would be open on Pulse Polio Day (October 10) between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. The mobile teams would operate at railway and bus stations and the airport so that children going out of the city and those arriving here could be covered. These teams would function round-the-clock from October 10 to 12 and cover high-risk groups. Eighteen nodal officers would visit all booths and supervise the immunisation programme. From October 11 to 13, volunteers would take up a door-to-door programme to confirm that children were immunised. The programme was supported by Rotary Club members, he added. Replying to a question about anganwadi workers refusing to participate in the programme, he clarified that the issues they had raised had been resolved, and they would take part.
