GADAG, OCT. 9. N.K. Jain, Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court, has said Lok Adalats are the best way of settling cases. Inaugurating the Court of Civil Judge (Senior Division) in Ron taluk on Saturday, Mr. Jain said mere opening of a court would not solve all the problems of litigants. In the normal course, the cases did not end up in the trial court. He appealed to the judicial officers, advocates and the litigants to see that the backlog of cases was reduced in the district. Mr. Jain said the judiciary would do its best to help the litigants. The public had full faith in the democratic setup and the judiciary. Because of the awareness of their rights, more people were approaching the courts. It was because of this that the number of cases had increased enormously. Several steps were being taken to reduce the number of pending cases, especially old ones and those pertaining to senior citizens, he said. N.K. Patil, High Court Judge and Administrative Judge of the district, presided over the function. N. Siddalingesh, District and Sessions Judge, welcomed the gathering. Later, speaking at an intensive programme of training for lawyers at Gadag, arranged by the Karnataka State Bar Council, Mr. Jain said learning was a continuous process and one should always update knowledge and endeavour to stand up to the ideals of the noble profession. Law was not static and there was need for the lawyers to keep their eyes and ears open to assimilate new developments. Fairness, good behaviour and hard work would bring success, Mr. Jain said. Mr. N.K. Patil was the chief guest.
