ISLAMABAD, OCT. 9. Two Chinese engineers working at a Pakistan hydroelectric project close to the tribal region bordering Afghanistan, were kidnapped by unidentified persons this morning. The tribal belt has been the theatre of fierce battles between Pakistani forces and suspected Al-Qaeda and Taliban militants and their tribal allies for over six months now. According to the Information Minister, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, the Chinese engineers were taken along with two Pakistani security personnel. "The security forces have circled the area where the engineers are supposed to be held. The agencies are trying to establish contacts with the captors. We are confident of securing their safe release," the Minister said.
