Storm misses race area

SUZUKA, OCT. 9. Typhoon Ma-on veered away from the Suzuka area on Saturday, boding well for Sunday's Japanese Grand Prix after weather fears caused a rest day and postponement of qualifying.

Forecasts had indicated the typhoon was headed directly for the race venue at Suzuka, but on Saturday, it veered slightly eastward and instead hit cities to the north. — AP
