Saveetha lifts trophy

CHENNAI, AUG. 9. C.H. Saveetha of Salem won the Dolphine Trophy for under-11 girls in the State chess championship for under-11 & under-13 girls on Saturday with two rounds to spare, after defeating the present State under-seven girls runner-up, J. Vaishnavi of Tiruchi. Saveetha leads with nine points, and five players, including Vaishnavi, are currently in second spot, with 6.5 points.

In the under-11 boys' section, city lad N. Srinath emerged as the new leader, with eight points, after defeating N.D. Rakesh Kumar (Erode) with black pieces. K. Priyadarshin was in second place with 7.5 points.

In the under-13 girls' section, A. Sitalatchumi of Madurai completed a convincing victory in 44 moves over Ishrath Amina Taj of Chennai, and is currently in sole lead with nine points after the ninth round.
