ANNAMALAI NAGAR, OCT. 9. Bangalore University claimed the men's title with a 3-2 win over host and last year's runner-up Annamalai University in the final of the South Zone inter-university badminton tournament at the University indoor stadium here on Saturday. Adip Nayak gave the lead for Bangalore with a 15-8, 14-17, 15-5 victory over Yuvaraj. Venkatesh of Annamalai crushed Savan Nivas of Bangalore 15-3, 15-6 in the second singles to level the score 1-1 and then went on to give the lead by winning the doubles in partnership with Pradeep, overcoming Bangalore's Adip Nayak and Shashank Sasthin 15-6, 6-15, 17-15. In the third singles Amar of Bangalore outplayed Vysakh of Annamalai 15-6, 15-3 to level the score 2-2. And again the Bangalore pair of Srinath and Savan Navas downed Annamalai's Yuvaraj and Sathya for the title. Annamalai had to be satisfied is retaining the runner-up position. In the third place play-off, holder for the last three years, Nagarjuna University beat Madras University 3-0 (Jayan James bt Karthikeyan 15-2, 15-5; Krishna bt Joe Pradeep 15-12, 15-4; Jayan James and Sarath Chandra bt Malik Jalal and Karthikeyan 15-2, 15-4). In the women's section, Annamalai University entered the quarerfinals.
