THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, OCT. 9. The Federation of Higher Secondary Teachers' Associations has criticised the intervention of certain organisations of teachers of high schools and primary schools in the affairs of the higher secondary sector. The motives of the leaders of such organisations were questionable and there was no reason to believe that it was due to their genuine interest in improving the condition of the higher secondary education that they were making interventions, said C. Josekutty, chairman of the Federation. At a press conference today, he said such unwarranted interventions would only worsen the condition of the higher secondary sector. At a time when the functioning of this sector, dealing with the future of over seven lakh students and which had around 20,000 staff on its rolls, ought to be streamlined and made more quality-oriented, there was no justification in creating an unhealthy situation, whatever the motives of the leaders might be, he said. The convention of teachers of higher secondary school, scheduled to be held here on October 12, would discuss these and other matters concerning them. It would also draw up a concrete plan aimed at improving the quality of higher secondary education, Mr. Josekutty said.
