Rise in humidity

The Gannavaram airport recorded a maximum temperature of 32.7 degree Celsius and a minimum of 25.1 degree Celsius, on Saturday. Humidity shot up from 89 per cent in the morning to 97 per cent in the evening.

Commodity prices

The following are the prices (in rupees per kg) of essential commodities in the local wholesale market on Saturday, according to Vijayawada Chamber of Commerce and Industry:

Groundnut oil-54, palmolein oil-43, sunflower oil-53, tamarind (flower variety)-40 to 48, tamarind (karipuli variety)-55 to 60, chillies-23 to 28, rice (2716)-12, rice super fine (samba masoori)-13 to 14, rice (sona masoori)-15 to 16, black gram-22 and red gram-27.

Training

classes

The Swamy Hindi Vidyalam will organise free training classes for students who intend to appear for Hindi Bodhini, Pradhamika, Madhyama, Rashtra Bhasha, Praveshika, Visarada, Praveena Poorvartha and Uttarartha, organized by Dakshina Bharata Hindi Prachar Sabha, Madras.

The training classes would be organised for two hours daily from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. from October 17. Interested candidates could contact the officials concerned between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the afternoon on Sunday.

Test tube baby

centre's feat

Srushti Test Tube baby centre at Suryaraopet has achieved a feat by enabling a woman conceive a baby at menopause stage.

Though the test tube baby concept is common, the centre has proved that a woman can conceive even when she reaches her menopause stage. The couple, Ramulamma and Adinarayana thanked P. Neeraja who made this possible.

MP's assurance

The Vijayawada MP, Lagadapati Rajagopal, on Saturday, assured early solution to the problems of drinking water and drainage for residents of the hilltop areas in 39 division.

He enquired with the residents about the basic amenities.

Seminar on

youth issues

The issues being faced by the youth of this generation could be categorised into different groups, according to Sadanand.

Addressing a seminar on youth-related problems here on Saturday by Vennela Psychiatric Clinic, Dr. Sadanand pointed out that the problems could be of different nature- domestic, social or youth-related. He advised parents not to dictate terms to their wards but behave like friends which would help them open up. The seminar was organised to mark the valedictory function of the Mental Health Week observed by the World Health Organisation.
