This Day That Age
The President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, said in New Delhi on October 10 that the film industry's primary consideration must be service to the people, "which is not incompatible with commercial success." Presenting the State awards for the best feature and documentary films at a function at the National Physical Auditorium, he said mere commercial success without service to the people was hardly worth anything. The capacity of a film to do good or evil was unlimited because of its reproduction and the large number of people who could see it any number of times at any number of places. It is, therefore, necessary to be cautious in the production of films in order to ensure that they are used for the good of society. Dr. B.V. Keskar, Minister for Information and Broadcasting, in his address, announced the decision to form a registered body called the Children's Film Society. Mr. S.S. Vasan, proposing a vote of thanks, said: "We in the film industry are proud at the signal distinction conferred on our colleagues and fellow workers.''
