HYDERABAD, OCT. 10. The Congress MP, Rashid Alvi, said here on Sunday that efforts were on by the Centre to set up a special commission for the education of minorities. Addressing a press conference, Mr. Alvi, who is a Rajya Sabha member from the State, said the Government was also thinking of allocating additional funds to the National Minorities Development Corporation to help minorities get loans and set up small businesses. The Centre was contemplating making amendments to the law dealing with communal forces in the country. "We will come down heavily on such forces. If necessary, we will enact a new law," he said. He termed the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal and the Shiv Sena as "anti-national parties, active participants in anti-national activity." While the country needed to fight Hindu communalist forces, it also needed to curb Muslim communalism, he said.
On reservation
On the five per cent reservation for minorities proposed by the Congress, Mr. Alvi said he was basically against reservations of any kind. However, when there were reservations for several other sections, he saw no reason why minorities, who were economically, socially and educationally backward, should be excluded.
