Letters to the Editor
Sir, This refers to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's statement that the time is not yet ripe for India to sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (Oct. 8). We should clarify that we will sign it only if it leads to the phased disarmament of the five nuclear weapon-states. By doing so, we will stand up for a world order that is based on equality and justice and not on anyone's `divine right' to possess nuclear weapons.
