APVA to seek Chief Minister's help

VISAKHAPATNAM, OCT. 10. The Andhra Pradesh Volleyball Association (APVA) will request the Chief Minister to provide employment to the volleyball players in various Government departments. A resolution to this effect was passed by the general body of the APVA, which met here on Sunday.

``The situation in AP is such that we are producing talented juniors and in the absence of any employment opportunities in the State they are joining PSUs like the Railways. More than 100 AP players have left the State in the last 10 years and still about a dozen are playing for other States and organisations in the National championships,'' said the APVA president, S. Kodandaramiah, and general secretary, L. Venkatram Reddy, at a press briefing after the general body meeting.

Mr. Venkatram Reddy, who is also secretary of the AP Olympic Association (APOA), said that several representations were made to the State Government in the last few years. Responding to one submitted a week ago, the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, promised to hold a meeting with the officials concerned to solve the issue.

The general body also discussed the calendar for 2004-05. The Junior National championships allotted to State, would be held at Rajampeta in Cuddapah district. The APVA intimated the Volleyball Federation of India (VFI) that the tournament could be held from February 8 to 12 tentatively, Mr. Reddy informed.

The seniors State championships would be held in Mahabubnagar district from December 7 to 12 and the district would also host the mini-State meet (under-12) in November or December. Srikakulam was decided as the venue for the Junior State championships (December-January 2005) and the sub-junior meet would be held in Krishna district during the first week of November.

The district associations which had not conducted elections were told to conduct the same before November 30. The general body also decided to suspend one of the vice-presidents of the APVA (representing Ranga Reddy district) since he made false allegations in the press against the president and secretary that accounts were not submitted without seeking a clarification from the APVA and on selection of Visakhapatnam as venue for international meets.
