CHENNAI, OCT. 11. Gritty Joshna Chinappa's campaign in the KCC Perrier Centenary Cup squash tournament ended when she lost to the top seeded Rebecca Chiu of Hong Kong 9-0, 9-2, 9-3 in Hong Kong on Sunday. The gallant run of the Chennai girl could not be sustained against an opponent several years her senior and who is in the top twenty in the world ranking. Rebecca has beaten Joshna before. A tense Joshna, as has been the pattern in the tournament, started shakily. Unlike the earlier encounters, where she was able to make a comeback, Joshna was left stranded repeatedly by the superior stroke-selections from Rebecca. The whole exercise was over in half an hour. Nonetheless, it was an experience to remember for Joshna, having come to the final of a WISPA event in only her second outing in the professional circuit. "It is undoubtedly an excellent show," said National coach Cyrus Poncha. He felt that the kind of training she undergoes at the ICL academy should strengthen her resolve. Poncha said Joshna regularly spars with top junior boys and this, along with the encouraging show in Hong Kong, should augur well for her.
