Mental Health Day observed

KOCHI, OCT. 10. There should be a provision in the Mental Health Act 1987 to ensure that there is follow-up treatment of patients. This observation was made by the Judge of the High Court of Kerala, K.S. Radhakrishnan, while inaugurating the World Mental Health Day programme organised by the Ernakulam Psychiatric Society. The theme for the year is `Relationship between physical and mental health - co-occurring disorders'. The president of the society, K. Sudarsan, presided. The Principal of Cooperative Medical College, M.S. Subhadra, the Principal of the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, the Dean of MOSC Medical College, Kollencherry, C. Radhakrishnan, and the president, IMA, Kochi, Ajay Kumar, spoke on the occasion.

Award instituted

A two-day annual conference of the Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists, Kerala State Branch, ISACON Kerala 2004, concluded on Sunday. The 28th meeting of the society instituted a young talent award in the name of the late Dr. K. P. Ramachandran, founder-member of the society. The first award was won by Asha Tyagi from New Delhi. About 450 delegates attended the conference.

Man killed

in accident

A 45-year-old man was killed when the two-wheeler he was pillion-riding collided with a KSRTC bus at Angamaly on Sunday evening. The police identified the deceased as Kallupalam Parayakka Veetil Joy (45), a tailor by profession. Kaitharathil Veetil Baby (34), who was riding the motorcycle, has been admitted to the Medical Trust Hospital with serious injuries.

Youth found dead

A 24-year-old man was found dead at Kurupumpady this evening. The police identified the victim as `Champan' Kunju. According to the police, Kunju entered into an altercation with one Lazar and was beaten up. The police arrived at the scene on being alerted by the local people. Though Kunju was rushed to the hospital, he was declared brought dead.

The victim was a resident of Aikkarakoottam, Aruvampara, Vengoor.

Nair, Chief Operating Officer of Kerala-Business-Directory.com were among those who spoke at the launch of the directory.
