This Day That Age
"The need of the hour is to reorient our entire outlook on education and aim at producing not a few great personalities who will tower over the rest, as was the case in the last century, but at bringing out men with a high average level of ability - of good citizens who will be ready to fit themselves into any position," said Mr. Sri Prakasa, Governor of Madras, presiding over the centenary celebrations of the Government College, Kumbakonam, on October 10. Mr. K.S. Krishnaswamy Iyengar, President of the Centenary Celebrations Committee, welcomed Mr. Sri Prakasa and Raja Sir M.A. Muthiah Chettiar. Raja Sir Muthiah Chettiar, unveiling a portrait of the late Sir P.S. Sivaswami Aiyar, said there could be no better subject for a centenary address than the life of Sir Sivaswami Aiyar who was almost an epitome of all that was good and great in our culture.
