COIMBATORE, OCT. 11. The president of the Indian Union Muslim League, Panakkad Syed Mohammed Ali Shihab Thangal, today condemned the attacks on party offices in Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode, allegedly by CPI(M) workers and asked that party to restrain its cadres. In an informal chat with mediapersons here, he said that his party was always opposed to the politics of violence. He sought to know whether the attacks had been carried out with the knowledge of the CPI(M) leadership. ``The intelligent people of Kerala will not tolerate such violence,'' he said. Referring to the recent remarks of the Congress leader, V.M. Sudheeran, blaming the IUML for his defeat from Alappuzha in the last Lok Sabha polls, Thangal said nobody had ever questioned the sincerity of the League, "which is an open book." Stating that the IUML was in alliance with the Congress for the last 35 years, Thangal pointed out that a League candidate was among the 17 candidates of the United Democratic Front, who had lost the May elections. Instead of blaming alliance partners and airing their views in public, politicians should learn to respect the verdict given by the people, he said. - PTI
