This Day That Age
France and India have agreed on a settlement regarding French settlements in India. It will be submitted to the elected representatives of the inhabitants for approval. Announcing this in Paris on October 12, a joint Franco-Indian declaration said: "Determined to seek a definitive settlement of the problem of the French establishments in India, the Governments of the French Republic and of the Indian Union entered into negotiations through their representatives in Delhi. As a result of these negotiations, the two Governments agreed on the following procedure: All the elected members of the Representative Assembly (of French India) and of the Municipal Councils of the establishments shall meet on October 18 in the establishment of Pondicherry to examine the arrangements jointly studied for a definitive settlement of the problem of the establishments and to pronounce on these arrangements, thus expressing the will of the population."
