CHANDIGARH, OCT.12. The President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, will dedicate to the people of the State the 250 MW seventh unit of the Tau Devi Lal Thermal Power Station at Panipat on October 16. According to an official spokesman here, the seventh unit of the project has been completed in a record 30 months by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited. With the addition of this unit, the power generation capacity of the State would increase to 1,110 MW. Also, additional 60 lakh units of electricity would be generated per day from this unit, which has been set up through modern management techniques and rigorous monitoring by the State Government. The eighth unit of 250 MW of this power station is in an advanced stage of construction and would be commissioned in December 2004, two months ahead of schedule. The cost of the project for turn-key execution is Rs.1,785 crores, which is the lowest among the contemporaneous projects. The State Government has contributed 20 per cent of the project cost by way of equity and remaining 80 per cent has been raised as loan from the Power Finance Corporation. At present, the Tau Devi Lal Thermal Power Station, the flagship of Haryana Power Generation Corporation, is an 860 MW plant having four units of 110 MW each and two units of 210 MW each. It has brought laurels to the State by winning awards for its meritorious productivity in the year 2003-04. It has achieved a generation level of 59,492.6 lakh units during 2003-04 as compared to 26,560 lakh units during 1998-99, showing an increase of 123 per cent. Its specific oil consumption was reduced considerably from 14.22 milliliter per kilowatt hour (ml/kwh) in 1998-99 to 3.21 ml/kwh during last financial year. The specific coal consumption has also been brought down from 824 gram per kilowatt hour (gm/kwh) in 1998-99 to 744 gm/kwh in 2003-04. It achieved the highest-ever daily generation of 205.04 lakh units on February 5, 2004, he claimed.
