Elaborate security in U.P.

LUCKNOW, OCT. 12. Extensive security arrangements have been made for tomorrow's by elections to one Lok Sabha and 12 Assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh. As many as 6000 central paramilitary force besides civil police and PAC will be deployed in 2700 polling centres where the fate of 174 candidates will be decided, according to election directorate sources here.

Baghra Assembly seat in Muzaffarnagar has been declared the most sensitive besides Mriyahun, Saidpur, Karchna and Hardoi where special arrangements have been made.

In Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat, where the Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav's nephew Dharmendra Yadav is in fray, 51 per cent polling centres have been identified as sensitive. The Opposition has been repeatedly petitioning the Election Commission about the alleged misuse of official machinery and possibilities of rigging.

The Chief Electoral Officer of the State, Vijay Sharma who toured the constituencies to review poll preparations said that complaints in this regard have not been found ture. The officials in these districts have however been instructed to maintain vigil and ensure there was no violation of model code of conduct. Sharma said besides six central observers have been appointed for Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat, two for Ghaziabad, Iglas and Atrauli and one each elsewhere to keep an eye on the election process.
