CHANDIGARH, OCT. 12. The Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers' Union (PCCTU) has issued a call to more than 6,000 teachers working in 160-odd colleges of Punjab and Chandigarh to proceed on mass casual leave on October 19 and observe complete "education bandh''. It has also asked the teachers to participate in a rally at Matka Chowk here on October 19. In a joint statement, Jagwant Singh, general secretary, S.S. Hundal, president, and R.S. Brar, co-president of PCCTU, said the strike had been forced upon them by the Punjab Government which had not paid any attention to the problems of teachers working in non-Government colleges despite the promise in its poll manifesto to restore the grants under 95 per cent salary deficit grant in aid scheme and implement the pension scheme.
