MANGALORE, OCT. 12. The BJP Yuva Morcha leaders on Monday criticised the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the Centre for "unleashing a reign of economic and social terror" in the country that was undoing the growth achieved by the National Democratic Alliance Government. Addressing a rally of the Yuva Morcha here, the Secretary of the BJP district committee, Vishveshwar Bhat, said the people were being forced to face an artificial scarcity of cooking gas and other commodities that were easily available during the National Democratic Alliance regime. The MLA, Krishna Palemar, said the N. Dharam Singh Government was not able to control the professional education lobbies in the State and as a result, students and parents had been put to hardship. He said by blocking opportunities to students the Government was doing injustice to them and their parents. The MLA from Sullia, S. Angara, said the United Progressive Alliance Government had fallen victim to the industrial lobby and now only a group of people and those with foreign antecedents were controlling it. The Organising General Secretary of the Yuva Morcha, Jeshta Padival, said the public distribution system in Dakshina Kannada had been in the doldrums and people living below poverty line were being deprived of their legitimate share of ration. He said over 2,500 people had applied for new ration cards but none of them had been issued with cards. This showed that the State Government was anti-poor, Mr. Padival said.
