Chauhan to head VHERDS

NEW DELHI OCT. 12. The founder president of Ritnand Baldev Education Foundation (RBEF) and the Amity Group of Educational Institutions, Ashok K. Chauhan, has been designated by the Kanchi Shankaracharya to head the activities of "Voluntary Health Education and Rural Development Society" (VHERDS), a non-governmental organisation working towards providing basic amenities and comprehensive development of villages in North India.

PNB's new initiative

NEW DELHI OCT. 12. The Punjab National Bank has became the first nationalised bank to use the services of Credit Information Bureau India Limited (CIBIL) for accessing credit information reports. The facility will enhance the quality of Bank's credit decisions and improve asset quality.

The PNB Chairman and Managing Director, S.S. Kohli, accessed the CIBIL database here at a brief ceremony and said the Bank had always upheld the best banking and accounting practice. The CIBIL Managing Director, Satish Mehta, said this association would not only help the Bank's operations but also its customers.

Director appointed

NEW DELHI OCT. 12. Fortis Healthcare Limited has appointed Dr. AK Singh as the Director of its Neurosciences Department. Mr. Singh has earlier worked in Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital as the head of its Neurosurgery Department. He is also a member of the Neurological Society of India. Mr. Singh has won many awards including the Delhi State Doctor's Award in 1998, the Life Time Achievement Award by the Neurotrauma Society and the "Scroll of Honour" by the Delhi Medical Association in 2002.

NCC team for Lanka

NEW DELHI OCT. 12. A National Cadet Corps (NCC) team of six cadets and one officer will proceed to Sri Lanka under the youth exchange programme from October 15 to 22. During the visit, they will meet the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, and the chiefs of Army, Navy and Air Force. They will also visit Sigiriya, Dambulla, Botanical Garden at Perdeniya and the Temple of Tooth Relic. Prior to their departure, the delegation today called on the Director General of the NCC, Lt. Gen. M.C. Bhandari, who offered his best wishes to the "young ambassadors of India".

Navaratri celebrations

NEW DELHI OCT. 12. Vasundhara Enclave Sarveswara Samaj will be celebrating the Navaratri festival this year also.

"The programme includes group recitation of Lalitha Sahasranamam and Kumkumarchana to be performed on all nine days by women," according to a spokesman of the Samaj.
