Partly cloudy sky forecast

NEW DELHI OCT. 12. The weatherman has forecast a partly cloudy day for the Capital on Wednesday. There is a possibility of thundry development or light rain in some parts of the city, he said. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 30 and 20 degree Celsius. Safdarjung recorded a maximum temperature of 27.9 degree Celsius and a minimum temperature of 20.6 on Tuesday, while Palam recorded a maximum temperature of 28.2 and minimum temperature of 20.5 degree Celsius respectively. The maximum relative humidity at Safdarjung stood at 91 per cent and the minimum 60 per cent. Palam recorded a maximum humidity of 93 per cent and a minimum of 61 per cent.

Mobile phone service hit

NEW DELHI OCT. 12. A large number of Mahanagar Nagar Telephone Nigam (MTNL) mobile service subscribers had to face a tough time this evening as the problem of no signal and poor connectivity plagued its telecom network. Throughout the evening, subscribers were unable to make or receive calls.

The problem started after 5 p.m. when the MTNL subscribers of both its pre-paid and post-paid mobile services were unable to connect to other phones. Ironically, the subscribers even failed to contact the helpline numbers.

When contacted, the MTNL's Executive Director (Mobile Services), Kuldeep Goel, said though he had received some complaints, but there were no major problems. Other senior officials could not be contacted on their MTNL mobile phones for comments as the network was down.

13 arrested

NEW DELHI OCT. 12. Thirteen people have been arrested by the East Delhi police for allegedly trying to illegally dispose of consignments of iron rods.

According to the police, iron rods were being unloaded from two trucks parked on a slip road in Mayur Vihar Phase-II around 4 a.m. on Tuesday. Five persons from one truck and four from the other were arrested on the spot. Subsequently, four persons, who were purchasing the iron rods, were also arrested.

Investigations revealed that the truck, bearing Haryana registration number, had collected the consignment from a private firm on NTPC Road and was scheduled to go to Kalkaji. The other truck had picked up iron rods from a private factory in Ghaziabad and meant to reach the under-construction Akshardham Temple complex.

A case has been registered at Pandav Nagar police station and further investigations in the case are on.

Four held

NEW DELHI OCT. 12. Four persons have been arrested by the North-East Delhi police for allegedly being involved in vehicle lifting. Three vehicles have been recovered at their instance.

According to the police, the accused -- Praveen, Yasin, Nazar Ali and Vicky -- were arrested from Bhajanpura in North-East Delhi on Monday afternoon. They were travelling in a stolen Tata-407. At their instance, two stolen motorcycles were also recovered.

The police said all the accused were school dropouts and were employed in petty jobs. Further investigations are on to ascertain their involvement in other cases.

Body found

NEW DELHI OCT. 12. The body of an unidentified woman was found near the Agra Canal in Okhla Vihar in South Delhi this morning. The woman had a sharp cut on her neck. The police have registered a case of murder and are investigating.
