Wage revision for textile workers urged
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD,
OCT.12.
The Andhra Pradesh Textiles Mazdoor Maha Sangh, an affiliate of the BMS, on Tuesday demanded reconstitution of the wage board for the textile sector which employs thousands of workers who are not covered by the Minimum Wages Act.
K.V. Radha Krishna, general secretary, in a statement issued here, said the recommendations of the AP Wage Revision Committee for Textile Mills Workers came into effect in 1991 and was applied till 1994. Since then the Government had not initiated any step to revise the wages of the workers.
He wanted the Government to take steps to extend the EFP, ESI and variable DA benefits to the workers, put an end to alleged malpractices by employers and stop police harassment and filing of false cases against workers.
The sangh, he cautioned, would be forced to launch an agitation if the Government failed to act on the demands.
