Dasara sports competitions begin in Madikeri

MADIKERI, OCT. 13. The Chief Executive Officer of the Kodagu Zilla Panchayat, P.L. Budihal, on Wednesday, exhorted sportspersons from the district to keep up its rich sporting tradition. He was inaugurating the Madikeri Dasara sports competitions organised by the city municipal council and the Dasara Sports Committee at the Man's Compound. Mr. Budihal received the Dasara sports flame from former State athlete Kishan Poovaiah who brought it after a traditional puja from Chowdeshwari Temple.

The former municipal president Kaveramma Somanna said the sporting tradition of Kodagu was worth emulating.

The former municipal vice-president T.M. Aiyappa said the council was setting apart one per cent of the annual budget to encourage sports and games in the city, particularly for Madikeri Dasara.

The president of the Dasara Sports Committee, A.C. Devaiah, welcomed the gathering. The president of the Kodagu District Hoteliers' Association, B.G. Ganesh Aiyanna, spoke.
