SALEM, OCT. 13 . The Collector, A. Sukumaran, inspected on Tuesday various developmental works being undertaken in the Magudanchavadi Union at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.02 crores. The Collector also inspected the noon meal centre in Ward 3 of the Magudanchavadi Union and asked the workers to supply quality food with eggs to the children. Many development works were being undertaken in the union including black-topping of the road between Edapadi and A. Pudur that was being laid at a cost of Rs. 7.70 lakhs under the Rural Road scheme, construction of 20 group houses at a cost of Rs. 6.40 lakhs under the Indira Memorial Housing scheme in Kasakaranur hamlet in A. Pudur village panchayat, laying of road between Valayachettipati Salai and Egapuram at Rs. 6.30 lakhs and cement concrete road in Egapuram at a cost of Rs. 1 lakh.
Paddy procurement
Mr. Sukumaran inspected all these works and asked the officials concerned to expedite the same. A total of 2,200 works were being undertaken at a cost of Rs 1.02 crores in the Magudanchavadi Union alone in the district. Officials who accompanied the Collector included District Rural Development Agency (DRDA)'s Executive Engineer, Kumarasamy, the Assistant Executive Engineer, J. Rasakudam, the Block Development Officers, R. Jagennathan and M.K. Subramanian. Seven block-level paddy procurement centres were opened in the district to accept paddy from farmers. The procurement price for paddy general variety was fixed at Rs. 560 per quintal and for the paddy Grade A category, it was Rs. 590 per quintal. The centres were Seelanaickenpatti (for those in Salem block), Omalur (Omalur block), Mettur (Mettur block), Sankagiri (Sankagiri block), Edapadi (Edapadi block), Ayothiapattinam (for Vazhapadi block) and Attur (Attur and Gengavalli blocks). Collector asked the farmers of the district to make use of the opportunity.
Meetings
The Collector would also hold mass contact programme for the villagers of P.N. Patti at the J.M.P. Kalyana Mahal at Karumalaikoodal in Mettur on Wednesday. Likewise, the District Revenue Officer, T. P. Rajesh and the Salem Revenue Divisional Officer, Dakhsinamoorthy, would hold grievances day meetings at Thippampatti village in Panamarathupatti Union and Erumapalayam in Salem.
