Technical festival opens tomorrow

KOZHIKODE, OCT. 13. The fifth edition of the "Tathva", the All India Technical Festival organised by the National Institute of Technology, Calicut (NITC), will be held on the campus from October 15 to 17.

The three-day programme, said to be the biggest technical fest in South India, would feature both technical and cultural events. It would be inaugurated by the Indian Information Technology and Management (IITM) director, R. Bhaskaran, the programme convener Dr.N.M. Nagarajan, the general secretary Student Parliament, Gince K. Mattam, and organising secretaries, N.P.S. Krishna Madhav and Denzil Thomas, told a new conference here today.

They said that the technical contests and events were aimed at bringing out the best among the students. The departments of Science, Humanities, Engineering would host presentations and contests and the architecture department would conduct contests on clay modelling and fashion designing.

Seminars

Apart from these programmes, seminars led by exponents in the various fields would be an added attraction. Besides, the NITC laboratories would be opened for public. School children would be taken on guided rounds and basic concepts would be explained to them. The Tathva would also have a school- model-making competition. An inter-school quiz competition, technical videos from the Kerala Sastra Sahitya Parishad (KSSP), award winning short films, Planetarium exhibit featuring a mobile unit and star gazing sessions are some of the other programmes.

Online events

A host of online events and on-the-spot events would also be included this time. Vintage exhibits and state-of-the-art gadgetry such as electronic palm reader and voice synthesiser would be displayed.

An intercollegiate quiz fest, `Crossroads', comprising sci-tech quiz, general quiz, sports quiz, and a cultural extravaganza organized by the NITC Music Club will be among the events. The public can take part in gaming competition, blockbusters, daily quizlets and daily crosswords.
