Old-age home coming up at Kyatsandra

By Our Staff Correspondent

TUMKUR, OCT. 13. Sri Mahalakshmi Temple Trust of Tumkur Grain Merchants' Cooperative Bank Ltd. will set up a senior citizens' home on 10 acres at Kyatsandra near here.

N.R. Jagadheesharadhaya, T.G. Viswanatha Shetty, N.R. Sharada, Renuka, N.R. Nagaraja Rao and Surendra A. Shah, trustees of the temple, told presspersons here on Wednesday that the old-age home would meet international standards. They said senior citizens from abroad could also seek admission to the old-age home.

However, domestic applicants would be given preference, they added.

The Mahalakshmi Temple was built in 1998 near the bank's headquarters. The trustees said that of the Rs. 9 lakhs saved from the temple earnings, Rs. 5 lakhs had been spent to buy the land for the old-age home.

The work on the project would begin soon, they said.

They noted that the distribution of prasada among devotees had become popular. Grain and oil merchants in Tumkur and Chitradurga districts were supporting the programme, they added.

Navaratri

The 10-day Navaratri celebrations would begin from Thursday, they said. Cultural programmes would be held in the evenings.

The trustees said that the idol of Mahalakshmi would be decorated with a diamond-studded crown.
