Minister promises steps to tackle drought in Kolar

By Our Correspondent

KOLAR, OCT. 13. The Agriculture Minister, K. Srinivasa Gowda, on Tuesday announced that the Government would take steps to provide relief to the people of Kolar district, which was facing a drought for the fourth year in a row.

The Minister, who made this announcement during his visit to several villages in Kolar and Bangarpet, also heard the grievance of the people.

Many villagers complained to the Minister that not everything was all right with the distribution of yellow ration cards.

He assured the villagers that he would instruct the authorities concerned to ensure that only eligible people were given yellow ration cards and rice at Rs. 3 a kg.

Road

D.J. Subramani of Vatrakunte brought to the notice of the Minister that the road to his village was in a bad condition.

The Minister directed the authorities concerned to prepare an estimate and take up the work on priority.

To the demand for more facilities at the high school at Hudukula, Mr. Srinivasa Gowda said he would take up the issue with the authorities concerned.

Encroachment

Mr. Gowda directed the authorities concerned to initiate action against people involved in encroachment of tank bunds. Warning that any laxity in implementing development works would not be tolerated, the Minister said that the authorities should work in tandem with elected representatives for effective implementation of the development works.

When villagers of Narayanapura and Harati drew the Minister's attention to the poor condition of the roads, the Minister directed the authorities concerned to take steps to lay good roads to the villages.

K. Chandra Reddy, President of the Kolar District Youth Congress, and Ramachandra, President of the Bangarpet Taluk Panchayat, were present.
