Navarathri Utsavam

NEW DELHI OCT. 13. The 18th Sarada Navarathri Utsavam will be celebrated at Kamakshi Mandir on Aruna Asaf Ali Marg here from October 14 to 23.

On October 15, there will be mahanyasa rudra japam and special homams and alankarams for the goddess every day up to October 22. On October 23, Chandi homam will be performed and the goddess will be adorned with gold kavacham.

Workshop for law students

NEW DELHI OCT. 13. Vivekananda Law School organised a two-day national workshop on "Advocacy Skills and Client Counselling" to train the law students here this past weekend. The aim of the workshop was to equip the students to perform various duties which lawyers are expected to do. Students from the National Law University, Jodhpur; the Army Institute of Law, Mohali; the National Law Institute University, Bhopal; Bundelkhand University, Jhansi; and the School of Law and Legal Studies, IP University, took part in the workshop.

Judges from the Supreme Court and the Delhi High Court enlightened the students on the intricacies of the subject.

School annual day

NEW DELHI OCT. 13. Bluebells International school celebrated its 47th Annual Day at Siri Fort Auditorium earlier this week. The chief guest was the Arya Samaj leader and human rights activist, Swami Agnivesh.

He spoke about the ideals of education and their applicability in the modern day context. He also gave away prizes for achievements in academics and co-curricular activities. A ballet titled "The Ignominy of Power'' was staged on the occasion.

Escorts treats U.S. patient

NEW DELHI OCT. 13. The Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre (EHIRC) on Wednesday successfully treated its first American patient, Howard Staab, for mitral valve surgery. A team of doctors lead by the Executive Director and Chief Cardiac Surgeon, Naresh Tehran, fixed the mitral valve in his heart.

Mr Staab, who is 53 years old, is a carpenter by profession and had given up hope on quality medical care in the U.S. as he did not have a health insurance cover or the money to bear the cost of surgery.
