THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, OCT. 13. The police today arrested a 27-year-old youth for trying to pledge a gold plated ring at a private lending firm in A.K.G. Nagar in Peroorkada police station limits. According to the police, the youth had been identified as Taha, a resident of Charuvilla Veedu, Sivanmukku, Madathara, near Vithura. The authorities of the lending firm alerted the police after they found that the 8 gm ring brought by Taha was a gold plated ring. The youth had earlier pledged "gold" ornaments in the same firm, police said. The youth had given his name as Pradeep to the police first and later it was found that his real name was Taha. The youth was arrested and produced before the Judicial First Class Magistrate II. He has been remanded to 14 days judicial custody.
Two arrested
The city police have arrested two persons in connection with the death of 50-year-old Jerome in the clashes between two groups of fishermen of the same community at Vizhinjam harbour beach on July 23 this year. According to the Vizhinjam police, Shaji and Frankin, the 32nd and 33rd accused in the case, were taken into custody in the wee hours of the day from the Kollengode bus stand in Tamil Nadu. Shaji, 28, is the son of Lukose and Frankin, 30, is the son of Sinkaramakan. The two were produced in the court in Neyattinkara and remanded till October 26. With this, the number of persons arrested in connection with the case has gone up to 10. The police have so far identified as many as 36 persons in the case.
