Councillor blocks Mayor's car

By Our Staff Reporter

KOLLAM, OCT. 13. The councillor from the Kayyalakkal division in the Kollam City Corporation, Majida Wahab of the PDP, today resorted to a protest by squatting in front of the Kollam Mayor's official car that was parked in the portico of the Corporation office.

Ms. Wahab resorted to the protest alleging that the Kayyalakkal division was being totally ignored by the civic authorities. The councillor came with her supporters from the division at the Corporation office at 8.30 a.m. and blocked the car.

As a result, the car could not be taken to bring the Mayor from her residence.

The Mayor came in a private car and entered the office premises through a side gate.

Ms. Wahab insisted that the Mayor should give an assurance that Kayyalakkal division would not be ignored and that suitable development projects would be sanctioned for the division. She made it clear that unless the Mayor gave an assurance, she would not budge.

Till 2 p.m. neither the Mayor nor any one representing her cared to meet Ms. Wahab. By 2.15 p.m., the Corporation Secretary met Ms. Wahab on behalf of the Mayor and gave her the assurance.

The councillor called off her protest at 2.30 p.m.
